The 66th National Square Dance Convention is a memory. And what a wonderful memory and time it was as we welcomed more than 3000 of our square dance friends to our wonderful city. We will never forget breaking the Guinness Book of Records, dancing on Fountain Square, dancing to the Ghost Riders wonderful band and more than anything, just having fun meeting people from all over the world and dancing with them to all the fantastic callers and cuers that worked so hard to make the convention a success. Seeing the smiles on our guests’ faces and hearing their comments made us feel that our four years of work was worth it.
And now we have the rest of the summer to enjoy our local dancing activities. We are in the middle of our Federation Dangle Dance events, with great participation by visiting dancers at all the club dances. Remember, you only need to dance at the Dangle Dances at 6 clubs during the summer to get a special dangle for your badge. This year’s theme is America the Beautiful and the dangle is a beautiful American Flag. It would be wonderful if all the Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky dancers would be able to get a dangle to wear.
On July 16, the Federation will be hosting its annual Honors’ Dance to honor Gene & Ginny Record, our honor couple for 2017. It will be held at the Hayloft Barn from 3:30 to 5:30. Gene & Ginny have been active in the Cincinnati dance community for 50 plus years—in fact, Gene was recently presented with a 50-Year Certificate by CallerLab. And Ginny has been at his side for those 50 years. He is still actively calling for 5 local clubs and a dance workshop. I hope all Cincinnati dancers will come to the Barn to recognize his & Ginny’s achievement.
The Federation Meeting will precede the Honors’ Dance on July 16, starting at 2:00. All dancers are invited to attend that meeting or any of the Federation meetings, which are held on the 3rd Sunday of every other month—January, March, May, July, September & November—starting at 2:00. The meetings last about an hour with discussion regarding many subjects, including State Corps activities, ideas on improving the Cincinnati dance community, planning federation sponsored dances, discussing class activities, etc. Everyone is welcome. The meetings after the July 16 meeting will be held at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ on Old Blue Rock Road. Look for further information in Dancenews.
HAVE A HAPPY SUMMER
